|Giving Children Hope –Haiti Relief Effort|
On January 12, a 7.0 magnitude earthquake devastated Haiti in Port-au-Prince. Officials anticipate that over 150,000 people may be dead and over 200,000 people have been injured as a result. At least 3 million people have been affected by the quake, which has resulted in approximately 1.5 people who have lost their homes.
Project Pueblo has partnered with Giving Children Hope to help the victims of the Haiti earthquake in whatever way we can. While there have been many reports of hospitals and doctors that need supplies and also reports of aid that is stalled on its way to the victims in Haiti, the great people at GCH have been working with trusted field partners to equip them with the supplies, medicines and food that is needed on the ground right now in Haiti.
Giving Children Hope is an amazing organization that works to deliver medical supplies, medical equipment, food, clothes and other aid all around the world. They are a faith-based nonprofit organization dedicated to alleviating poverty (domestically and abroad) through disaster relief, health and community development, vocational training and advocacy.
Over 10,000 pounds per day have been shipped to Haiti by GCH and those supplies are currently being used in relief efforts—so you know that your monetary and material donations are being sent directly to those who need it most, the victims of the earthquake in Haiti.
You can find out more about GCH at www.aidtohaiti.org.
You can help directly in one of 2 ways:
1) By donating money or needed materials to Giving Children Hope through our Haiti Relief Donation Project.
2) By volunteering your time to help sort medical supplies with Pueblo Pueblo on Friday afternoons at Giving Children Hope headquarters in Buena Vista, CA.
Also, you can volunteer your time by coming to GCH with us to help sort medical supplies that will be shipped to Haiti for relief efforts. In the days following the earthquake, Project Pueblo received a call to have 20 volunteers come out the next day to sort supplies that will immediately ship to Haiti. Within one hour, 20 members of Project Pueblo LSU committed to help and we have had 70 volunteers that have since helped as members of our Haiti Response Team. Our goal is have well over 100 volunteers in the next few months that will help to sort medical supplies to Haiti and we would love to have you as part of our team!
